A Little About Me

My name is Richard Brooks, my friends call me Rick and I invite you to call me Rick as well. I have a love for woodworking that goes back to my high school woodshop class and my dad's back porch "shop". I fell in love with creating...with making. Sadly as sometimes happens, life pulled me in other directions and I moved away from the hobby for many years.

In 2019 my dad lost his fight with cancer. My wife, my kids, and I had moved away a few years earlier so I wasn't with my dad at the end but I spent a lot of time with him on the phone. We talked about anything and everything that he wanted. Of course one of the topics would always be "Do you remember when we built that..." It was those conversations that got me thinking...remembering...and ultimately pulling me back to the hobby I once loved so much. After he passed I inherited many of my dad's tools. After several trips back home I have been able to get those tools back to my home shop here in Georgia and that is where Richard Brooks Woodworking and it's companion YouTube channel, The Weekend Woodshop began.

Since getting back into the craft I have also discovered that I enjoy designing new projects. I have learned how to use SketchUp design software and like to create plans for the projects that I make so that you can build these projects for yourself. These plans will be available in our store as well as other merchandise you might find useful once we can get a store up and running.

I am a gamer at heart with a passion for creation. Join me on my journey to build out my home shop focusing on reliable but not necessarily "state of the art" tools. Along the way we will build some cool shop gizmos as well as other beautifully functional projects that focus on craftsmanship, not how well we can program G code for a CNC.
